Birders: You can find some good discounts on spotting scopes here, including brands like Nikon and Barska scopes.

My dad loves taking photos of birds in his garden, he has lots of bird feeders, and he's quite into technology/books. At the moment he's really into hummingbirds. Does anyone have any gift ideas for his birthday? Something new or something he can add to his photo taking or birdwatching hobby. Maybe below 40 dollars.

I'm not going to post a bunch of paragraphs and ask you to proof or ask what you think. I'm more in the building phase right now. Couple of issues: 1.) One of the main characters is a FtM transsexual, but is closeted except to a few people and is 14 years old, so he hasn't has a sex change yet. I'm having pronoun trouble. In my notes, I call him a "he", except when someone is talking about him, they usually refer to him as a "she". But how could I refer to him without there being too much confusion? 2.) There's a rape scene in the story that is important to the plot. I'm not going to write it, especially not in detail, since the girl who was raped is a young teenager. How could I write it without too much detail? Just describe horror/pain or something? I have no clue. 3.) How cheesy is the "summer camp" setting and do you think it can be pulled off? 4.) What are some resources I could use to learn more about hunting (such as deer hunting)? For a character. 5.) How difficult would it be in real life to receive something like a BB gun into a summer camp? Do you know of any that have hunting as some activities available? 6.) Name suggestions for a 14-year-old girl. She's outgoing, audacious, cheery, and likes to take up several hobbies (rock collecting, birdwatching, etc.). She's a brunette with a slender build, grayish eyes. I've been calling her Cheryl. That's about it for now. Help with what you can? hehe. ^_^;;; For #5, about the gun- if not, then do camps (nature type camps, the whole cabins, woodsy deal) ever keep guns? Or would a leader, I guess you call them, ever keep one? I may just have one of them hide one, but one of the characters needs a gun for a certain part of the story. (He needs to shoot a man trying to hurt his pal.) Suggested alternatives are appreciated. I am no help.

I use binoculars every the time - birdwatching, wildlife watching, and stargazing. I know how to adjust focus and every that. Is DSLR the same thing? I've never tried using one before.

I just purchased tickets to the radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and the seats are okay. (25 rows back orchestra level) but I'd like to receive binoculars potentially-- is there a pair I can procure pretty cheaply that would be good for this? (I wear glasses.) Thanks!

Hi do you know any good birdwatching/wildlife watching places around elgol in Skye

I adore birdwatching and there are so many different varities in my garden that I felt that I had to ask this question. I keep my gardens in the best condition I can for someone my age and my wife called me over to the window earlier and I saw Robins, Blackbirds, Starlings, Sparrows and there was even a little fox out too. What is it that attacts every this wildlife to my garden?

Hi, i was wondering if when you look birds in like places like Martin Mere(not the hides) do birders count them on their bird list?

Hi everyone, I have a domain with two subdomains--those subdomains are based on astronomy (skywatching) and birdwatching. I receive about 100 hits a day on both, and I was wondering if it would be an okay idea to make LOTS of subdomains with unrelated topics, as I have interest in LOTS of things. Is this idea good, or should I stick to related subjects?

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/2387/dscf0003l.jpg Sorry about very needy image quality, was taken on a mobile phone. I am a complete novice to birdwatching! Thought it was, many thanks!

Is it clean enough for walking on the beach, birdwatching, collecting shells, etc? Also, if anyone has an update on whether they plan to reopen the state park, please let me know.

I've always seen birds, they land and they fly, and they sit in their nests. But I've never seen one snooze, even whilst birdwatching.

i'm a amateur bird watcher- it's fun, and in the New Jersey/New York area, a saw a bird that i can't find in any books or online. The bird seemed in the raptor family; it was medium brown on wings and head, and white or light buff chest. I just saw it driving by and it was facing me. the only other characteristics i could say were it had a more flat/rectangular head and it was perching in a really tall tree (so i'm not sure how big it was. at least 1 1/2'). I can't find it in any bird books or online, so maybe it was a female or juvenile version. Not knowing what bird it was has just been really bothering me so any help is awesome.

We're doing a secret santa style thing in the family this year and I'm not too familiar with optics and such so any of you hunting/birdwatching/outdoorsy types please help. I need a decent set of binoculars that would be spending most of their life on a boat in the ocean. The gift $ limit is $50. Any ideas? personal reviews? looking for a little more than your regular set of glasses(i.e. nitrogen filled, salt-water resistant, floating[not every of these have to apply but a couple would be nice]).

this year i decided to receive my christmas presents done early. im only 13 so i have literally no money. i was thinking of making a little gift bag for each of my family members and wrapping them really chilly and just making them really fun. i was gonna do a different gift bag for each family member by their age and interests. i need the stuff inside to be really creative. like i said, i have no money so i want the gift back stuff to be some homemade and the other stuff just cheap stuff but still useful and creative. these are the people i need to make gift bags for: 1.my mom- she absolutely loves homemade stuff and anything we give her. 2.my dad- hes a little tougher, he loves the eagles football team but he has a lot of their stuff so it has to be creative 3.my grandpa- he loves birdwatching and he doesnt expect much from us 4. my 14 year old sister-shes difficult, she likes doing her hair and makeup, but i still dont really know 5. my 4 year old sister- so easy, buy her a couple crappy little toys and shes glad, oh and she LOVES tic-tacs 6. my 19 year old sister- shes kinda difficult cuz shes so much older. shes a hairstylist, but the stuff she uses is kinda expensive, i want hers to be really special cuz i probably wont be able to spend my next christmas with her cuz she just joined the marines(which im very upset about so i dont want to talk about it). so i need to know what i should do for each of them. i know im asking for a lot, but i need help. thanks so much to anyone that helps. i already have some ideas for how im going to decorate each of the bags but any tips would help. thanks again!

I really adore birds and I plan on becoming an avian vet some day if every goes well. I possess two budgies and a conure and I go birdwatching frequently. I'm only a freshman in high school, though. My school offers only two years of biology, and I'm in an honors level first year of it. What other sciences should I take in the next three years to better prepare myself for college and vet school? Physics isn't mandatory in my school and I really have no interest in it. Do I need it in any way? We have no anatomy class, though there is a genetics class available in my senior year. I do plan on taking that, but it's an elective and I need two more years of science.

I've been birdwatching at the base of the Smokies in Carolina for a year, are there any websites I should know about?

Or a trip to Maine to go sea kayaking ,fishing and a hiking trip to the mountains to hike and birdwatching.

or something that sounds like a bird chirping a la the very end of "layla"? bq: favorite songs about birds? bq2: do you like birdwatching?

Hi, i was wondering whereabouts in Cornwall would you be able to look puffins and also, what other birds will you look in Cornwall close Puffins. Also, are there any other good birdwatching places close the northwest, i know Marshside.

I am not saying that we need to focus wholeheartedly on tourism. I think that alot of Trinis are not aware of the great stuff our country as to offer. Trinidad and Tobago is the ultimate package. Trinis dont know the level of beauty that the island has. There are alot of "undiscovered" beaches. Most people only go to Maracas and Chaguaramas. We have alot of hiking trails, waterfalls, birdwatching. Most trinis dont even go to some of the great attractions. Trinidad can be a major Eco tourism destination right behind Dominica. I know Tobago is known for its beaches and the coral reefs but there has been alot of violence against tourist. I wish that would stop

Is there a good public transit system? Or would a car rental be the best. We are going to be doing lots of birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

Yesterday I was at my Sunday Birdwatching class. I had just taken a picture of a rare bird and in my excitement I showed it to my tutor. He said 'Well done!' then hugged me, then he started feeling up and down. My penis became difficult but I told him to cease it and he did. He's 40 years old and I am 16. I did feel quite ashamed. I just birdwatch to have a good time on Sundays. I don't want to go back next week but I want to keep birdwatching and he is the only birdwatching tutor in town. What should I do?

I'm trying to plan a trip to Maui in Sept or Oct and am trying to decide on lodging. My fiance and I are getting married in Po'olenalena and spending about a week or so in Maui. I have found a lot of affordable condo rentals in Kihei and Lahaina so I'm leaning towards those areas but Wailea seems to have beautiful beaches as well. Of these 3 areas, which would you pick? Or should I split my trip between South and West Maui? What are the advantages/disadvantages to these areas and what is the major difference, if any, between South and West Maui? We want a nice relaxing, romantic trip as well as being able to like nightlife and outdoorsy stuff like snorkeling and birdwatching.

In general Rutland offer a fairly wide range of activities for various types of people, such as farms, birdwatching, rock climbing, cycling, sailing, boating, canoeing, horse riding, swimming and alot more. Although this is very good for such a tiny county, the amount of activities after school and during the school holidays could be more, and the activities could be aimed more at young people and teenagers. When I researchered activities avaliable for kids aged between 8 and 14 I discovered that there weren't that many although I did find some; "Rainforest Roadshow" during school holidays based in the library which is free but would only appeal to certain types of people. "Teen Quad Biking" which although is popular, it's cost decrease the number of people able to join which is a very big issue. Activities for teenagers should be targeted at them and revolved around them and the cost should be a part of that. After school clubs and youth groups are seeming quite popular, one in particular being Jules Youth Club, for teenagers between 13 and 19 for two days a week from 6:30pm-9:00pm and the membership is free. They offer a wide range of activities for every types of people and this would benifit the community better than just a one activity club, their activities include;pool, computers, music, arts, crafts, sports, and project work and much more. Jules bring the community together and I think that Rutland would benifit if we had more clubs like this. One thing I think that could be improved is having longer opening times, wider age range, extra help with schoolwork, advice and being open on weekends. It would be useful because it would allow young people to receive involved in a safe enviroment where they feel confident and most importantly like themselves.

I need one for general night time viewing and for birdwatching in the day time. I will be buying one online and also i won't be buying a tripod so yeah; what nice of bino should i be looking for? What would i be able to look at night if i receive a 7x50mm binocular?

i am looking to receive into a club or organization. Can anyone please give me a site to go to, so i can look for something i can receive into? im in my 20's

I understand the appeal of birdwatching for them, but what purpose do those noises have?

and which spotting scopes are the best for birdwatching

1)San juan, puerto rico is a great place to stay for the summer fun activities include golfing, surfing, fishing, camping, and birdwatching 2)dress to impress

im 16 soon and i don't know what to ask from my parents. im stuck between two different gifts atm. 1st one is binoculars ( i like birdwatching ) and some books or an ipod touch. what do you think i should ask for ????

whats the best lens for: -quick moving objects -can zoom reallly far -$800 and less -can blur the background nicely -very sharp pictures it'll mostly be used for stuff like birdwatching thanks! btw i have a nikon

I need it explained in simple, easy-to-understand language. Perhaps explain the differences as to roof prism, porro prism, wide angle, degree of angle, what the X's stand for, as I don't know how to look for a tiny waterproof pair which brings things way up close to use on a boat or for birdwatching. Perhaps a certain brand and type can be suggested? I believe Bushnell are suppose to be very good but are they pricey because of the name? I look a lot of Nikons and wonder if they may be the best buy? (I am leary of Olympus because they have so many remanufactured products out there). Any and every suggestions and info will be much appreciated. Thank you. Also, please explain the field of view, angle of view and if some can be attached onto a tripod without an adapter. And, should I look for fogfree lenses only? Would ATB (allterrain) ones be best because they are more durable?

Or do you just take the money and run? Is there a middle ground that would make everyone glad? Telescope poll: Birdwatching or voyeurism?

Hi! I'm preaparing my resume for an internship banding birds. I want to include this but I don't know in which section (and how): -Participated in the workshop "Theory and Practice in banding birds and mist netting", organized by the CENAA (National Banding Centre) -Took course on birdwatching conducted at the Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo (I'm from Argentina, that's why it's in Spanish) Should both go below "Experience"? Or below "Education"? Or below another section? Thanks!

I couldve swore these were disney movies but I'm not positive looking through the lists of disney movies. One is of a girl who wore a pink skirt, and later died and got the help of some teenage boy, visiting him in highschool and only he could look her. I'm pretty sure this is in the same film, but theres a scene where a girl is spying and claims to be "birdwatching" when a cop comes up to her. I think this is the boys sister. The other film i don't remember well, but it was either a kid made a robot or it was an alien that walked around destroying stuff. Im pretty sure it was an alien, sent to Earth as their world was destroyed. But if I remember correctly there was a big robot thing that shot stuff. I look a car scene and a sign, the robot or whatever had vision to detect targets... I don't know. I don't think it was animated. I'm sure it wasn't Iron Giant though. Thanks for the first find though XD.

Now that the market is so unstable and, as always, run and supported by brain-dead zombies from the planet "Washintonius 5", should I make direct investments into private companies like Wings Birding Tours or some birding lodge deep in the Amazon basin?

Hello every birdwatchers, I have been thinking of writing a birdwatching program for free use online. Basically, you could enter information about sightings and whatnot. You could upload pictures you took and attach them to your sightings, and browse a database of pictures and information to identify birds. Any suggestions for the ideal birdwatching program? Best answer will be awarded to the most complete and well-explained feature list, but I would like to hear every suggestions!

1. why once every week I receive sick at nighttime? it's been starting since schools over. 2. why I keep jumping to interest? when I'm interesting in something, then a little sample of the other show up, I quickly jumps into that, because when I was interested in deep sea creatures, now trees interest me, now birds, now wicca. right now I'm interesting in birdwatching and wicca, how can I cease this? RYS, I don't smoke weed, I'm 13 year old okay? and back off, I would never taste one of those stupid drugs

Looking for a quick weekend trip for tent camping within a few hours' steer of Wichita, KS. Any recommendations? Looking for nature-heavy areas, with lots of birdwatching or nature hiking areas. Prefer state parks or COE, but am open to every suggestions.

Okay, it was just a little idea. I figured out how to make hummingbird feeders from soy sauce bottles. They work great, cost next to nothing, blah blah. I put some pictures up on MySpace, and posted my idea in a birdwatching forum. Pictures! And I still got stupid questions! One person wrote and told me that his feeders were so much better than mine. Is it me? Am I just a lousy communicator, or is there something about new ideas that people have difficult times with? Now the Big Idea. Both my site, www.geocities.com/carjug and Bob's site, www.phondot.com contain the same idea for helping people read, simply make the text easier to decode. Neither of us has had much luck communicating this idea, which works just fine. Does the same principle apply? Do people need to have ideas presented in a certain way, or ... Am I asking the wrong question?

Like from climbing you can receive sponsors

My main areas of expertise are garden & landscape and pets (exept saltwater fish). I also like birdwatching & learning about the solar system. I work at a plant nursery

I'm looking to buy a new bird guide. I need one tiny enough to carry with me when I go birdwatching but big enough to contain a good amount of info regarding the habits of the birds. I live on the East coast of the US, if that helps. So, what are your favorite bird guides? Which would you say is the best?

I was hoping there was a specific section but there is not (I'll suggest it). Pet birds isn't really right so I suppose zoology is my next best bet?

Later this Summer, I am going to give up using the internet for anything but schoolwork and occasionally looking up restuarants and shops. I want to spend more time outside, with family, learning new things. A few events that have happened recently have made me wish I spent more time with certain people. And I really wish I could change that. The past year has gone so quick, and I don't feel like I acheived that much. I realised that I spend hours a week, not even on MSN, which I don't possess, doing pointless things on the internet. And have realised that I was perfectly glad in my childhood, when I barely knew how to log on. And so were my parents, and their parents and theirs too,.. So I am going to spend time out on bike rides, seeing friends face to face, swimming, riding.. It's light in the evenings, it's warmer every day, and there are so many beautiful things to look at this time of year. Heck, I am half way towards thirty!!! I won't be a child for much longer, so I am going to spend every Summer being childish. I don't want a modern childhood to remember. My question is, what do you remember doing when you were younger to keep yourself occupied. I never use mobile phones anyway. I need some new ideas of how to fill my time, I want a more enriched life. Learning to cook better, birdwatching, whatever. New hobbies, past-times, time-fillers.. I think I would be happier if I didn't spend every this time inside. What did you do when you were longer, before the cyber boom? xx *When you were younger? by the way, I am a teenager living in English countryside, but I can receive the bus to the city/into town Nicholas, the horse idea couldn't be moer appropriate. My grandparents possess a horse that was supposed to be for my mom and I, but she hurt her hand. And I lost my confidence. I could relearn those riding skills I once had with my aunt and mom. Thank you for the superb idea! Sailing sounds like a beautiful idea. I do not live by the sea, but I would adore to do it on holiday. For a credit crunch alternative, we are probably having a simple seaside trip this year. When my mum was younger, she lived on a farm, and they used a boat on the river. Perhaps that would be fun! Oh I am so pleased with every these ideas. Thank you every!!
